Damn, what a dam

The canal lock is being repaired, a big job that’s much easier done without all that pesky water getting in the way. Walking past, I was astonished to see a temporary dam made of metal struts and plastic sheeting. Astonished because looking at it, it doesn’t look strong enough to hold a bath, let alone a canal’s worth of water at bay. The forces on that plastic must be enormous.
