Dennis died in the early hours of Sunday, August 12th. My brother Stuart was with him at the time, and said it was a peaceful end. Dennis was an extraordinary man; gentle in his heart, radical in his politics, and so well read that he knew something about almost any topic you cared to name. [...]
Since my son started school last September, I’ve been quite productive. Having a good chunk of each day to myself, for the first time since he was a tiny baby, has meant I could get on with some work, some chores around the house, some organising of things that were long-left-unorganised.
But quick as a [...]
My mum’s cousin’s father, known to me during my childhood as “Uncle Joe”, was a famous plasterer. You might not think that there could be such a thing as a famous plasterer, but if any plasterer ever achieved some degree of fame, it was Joe Sawyer.
He became a plasterer just as his father and grandfather [...]

Weather mostly wet and mostly miserable, but we still enjoyed a relaxing break away from work and computers and daily necessaries. Neither of us had properly visited Spain before, so it was a cultural adventure as well. Suffice to say, we thought it [...]

Because he’d been a really good boy, we took Barney out for a day trip to the caves at Wookey Hole.
Wookey’s great, because it’s a proper cave system that’s still being explored, and offers some very impressive underground chambers to see. It’s not perfect, though - the guided tours feel rushed, and there’s not [...]

Barney woke up first, as he usually does, and wandered into our room in search of a mummy or a daddy who might be willing to get up and make him some breakfast.
Mummy got up, as she usually does, and through the landing window saw the snow covering everything outside, and still falling softly from [...]

This is Barney and his new teddy friend, Sossy.

Barney and I went on a cracking walk, and made a little vid when we reached our destination…
Oh, and then we remembered something else we’d meant to say…
