Get Lamb out

Get Lamb out is a campaign with a simple goal – to get dunderheaded idiot George Lamb off the airwaves of BBC 6 Music. If you’re one of the many listeners who has tuned in recently and found yourself enduring his mindless blithering, you’ll probably want to add your name to the petition to have him ditched.

As posters on the 6 Music message board will tell you, there’s been a disastrous exodus of good DJs there over the last few months, and their replacements have ruined the station. My mornings used to be accompanied by Phill Jupitus and Gideon Coe, both of them offering an appropriate mix of talk and plenty of appropriate music. Their replacements, probably under management instruction, have upped the talk and consider their voices the most important thing on offer.

It’s called “6 Music”. What happened to the “Music” bit?

Mixing and matching the modern internet

Take the following:

• Her Majesty’s BBC, and all those fine artists and journalists who sail in her;
• the fantastic (in the 9th Doctor sense of the word) Speechification blog, dedicated to unearthing great chunks of BBC radio content and delivering the occasional MP3;
• Yahoo’s Easy Listener Flash tool, into which you can bung a URL and out of which you get a neat playlist of audio tracks hosted thereat;

Mix ‘em all up, give a little shake, and out pops something like this:

It’s a perfect little Speechification Player for you to use while reading, which saves you all that fiddly messing about with right-clicks or control-clicks and “saving as”. Pah, we say to all that. Helloooo! we smile at the Easy Listener and what it can offer us.

I’ve been going a little crazy with Easy Listener, and have built myself a little personal radio station – behold, my electric organ, combining various music mp3 blogs and now topped off with Speechification’s superb intelligent speech best-of.

If this was 10 years ago and I was still blogging with a mailing list, I’d say this was *gorjuss*.
